Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent has announced a significant appointment within the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Joseph Lavorgna will assume the role of Counselor to the Secretary. Lavorgna is recognized as an experienced economist with over twenty years in the financial services sector.
Lavorgna transitions from his position at SMBC Nikko Securities, where he served as Managing Director and Chief Economist for the Americas. Before this, he was Chief Economist at Natixis CIB. During his tenure there, he took a one-year leave to work in the Trump Administration as Special Assistant to the President and Chief Economist of the National Economic Council.
His previous experience includes a role at Deutsche Bank Securities, where he consistently earned recognition in the Institutional Investor All-Star Fixed Income Survey. Additionally, Lavorgna has been a Senior Fellow at the America First Policy Institute, a think tank based in Washington, D.C., and holds a degree from Vassar College.
