Rashaw Henry, a 30-year-old resident of Hyattsville, Maryland, has been sentenced in Superior Court for possession of a machine gun. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Henry was found guilty on January 24, 2025, of several charges including unlawful possession of a firearm due to a prior conviction, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of a machine gun, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of a controlled substance. Superior Court Judge Deborah Israel sentenced him to 60 months in prison. However, all but 24 months were suspended contingent upon Henry completing two years of supervised probation.
According to evidence presented at trial, MPD officers were monitoring the unit block of M Street NE on March 21, 2024. An officer observed Henry with approximately one pound of marijuana. Upon arresting him, officers recovered a Glock 23 handgun from his waistband. This handgun had been modified with a conversion switch that transformed it into a fully automatic weapon. It was loaded with 18 rounds in its 22-round capacity magazine and one round in the chamber.
U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith commended the work done by those involved in investigating the case from the Metropolitan Police Department. They also acknowledged Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anne Cotter and William Gandy for prosecuting the case.
