Joseph Humire appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense

Joseph M. Humire has been appointed as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense Integration and Defense Support of Civil Authorities, according to an announcement by the America First Policy Institute (AFPI). Humire, who previously served as a Senior Fellow for the Western Hemisphere Initiative at AFPI, is recognized for his expertise in national security and defense.

"Joseph has contributed valuable insights to AFPI’s efforts to defend American interests and values both at home and abroad," the institute said. Humire's work has focused on exposing threats from authoritarian regimes such as China, Russia, and Iran in Latin America and the Caribbean.

His role with AFPI's Western Hemisphere Initiative emphasized an "America First foreign policy: one that prioritizes national sovereignty, defending the homeland, countering transnational threats, and reinforces security, prosperity, and stability throughout our hemisphere."

Humire is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and has been influential in helping policymakers understand the influence of America's adversaries in nearby regions. His efforts have highlighted "the urgent need to reassert American leadership in the region."

Though his tenure at AFPI has ended, his contributions are expected to continue impacting the Western Hemisphere Initiative. The institute expressed gratitude for his service: "We are grateful for his contributions and confident that he will continue to defend our nation with honor, insight, and unwavering commitment to American values serving under President Trump and Secretary Hegseth."
