Dominican national indicted for illegal reentry into the United States

A Dominican national residing unlawfully in Brockton has been indicted for reentering the United States after deportation. Edwin Antonio Sanchez-Lara, 34, faces charges on one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

The indictment states that Sanchez-Lara was deported from the United States in August 2019. It is alleged that he reentered the country illegally and was encountered on May 11, 2025.

If convicted, the charge could lead to a sentence of up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine up to $250,000. After serving any imposed sentence, Sanchez-Lara would be subject to deportation. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge following the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David G. Tobin from the Major Crimes Unit.

It should be noted that the indictment's details are allegations at this stage, and Sanchez-Lara is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
