The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a new initiative to encourage self-deportation among illegal aliens using the CBP Home App. This move includes the forgiveness of civil fines or penalties for those who fail to depart the United States after a final deportation order. Currently, illegal aliens can face fines of nearly $1,000 per day for not departing on time.
DHS has issued over 9,000 fine notices amounting to almost $3 billion. To facilitate this process, DHS has made improvements to the CBP Home Mobile App, simplifying its use for self-deportation.
Secretary Kristi Noem stated, "If you are here illegally, use the CBP Home App to take control of your departure and receive financial support to return home." She emphasized that failure to comply could result in fines, arrest, deportation, and a permanent ban from returning.
Illegal aliens who utilize the app will also receive free travel and a $1,000 stipend upon confirmation of their return through the app. The department highlights self-deportation as the safest and most cost-effective method for leaving the U.S., potentially preserving future opportunities for legal reentry.
The CBP Home App is available at no cost on Apple and Android devices through Apple's App Store and Google Play or directly from DHS.gov. Further information can be found at DHS.gov/CBPhome.
