U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry have detained a man wanted for an alleged sexual crime against a child. The apprehension took place on June 8 at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge when CBP officers referred Osbaldo Gomez, a 34-year-old U.S. citizen, for secondary inspection.
Port Director Alberto Flores of the Laredo Port of Entry commented on the arrest: “Due to the vigilance and dedication of our CBP officers, a fugitive wanted for this heinous crime is now in custody.” He praised their commitment to community protection and law enforcement.
During secondary inspection, biometric verification confirmed that Gomez had an outstanding felony warrant for indecency with a child by sexual contact, issued by the Laredo Police Department. In Texas, this offense is classified as a second-degree felony. Following his detention, Gomez was handed over to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office pending criminal proceedings.
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) facilitated the identification through its centralized automated database that shares information among law enforcement agencies. This system has previously aided in arrests related to various offenses including homicide and narcotics distribution.
It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations until proven in court. Defendants are presumed innocent unless found guilty.
