U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Del Rio International Bridge have detained a U.S. citizen for allegedly resisting or impeding officers during an inspection. The incident occurred on June 7 when a 28-year-old man arrived from Mexico as a pedestrian and reportedly refused to comply with officer requests.
Port Director Liliana Flores of the Del Rio Port of Entry stated, "Alleged threats made to our CBP officers conducting their inspectional duties are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Prosecution in cases like these will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law."
The man is accused of making verbal threats to officers, taking a combative stance with clenched fists, and refusing compliance, which hindered the continuation of the inspection process. Officers subsequently secured him and placed him in a detention cell.
Special agents from Homeland Security Investigations arrested the individual and began a criminal investigation into the matter. Additionally, the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility reviewed the incident.
