Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning has sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Hegseth, acknowledging the Department of Defense's initiatives to remove unnecessary regulations and speed up acquisition processes. In his correspondence, Fanning pointed out specific requirements that he believes should be revised or eliminated.
"AIA has long been an advocate of reducing redundant and burdensome regulations that slow the acquisition process, increase barriers to entry, and inject risk into the defense industrial base. A flexible and agile acquisition system is required to deliver the latest technology and best-in-class capabilities to the warfighter," Fanning stated. "AIA applauds Secretary Hegseth’s renewed focus on removing burdensome overregulation and streamlining the defense acquisition process. We stand ready to partner with the Department of Defense as they work to equip the warfighter, deter our adversaries, and defend our nation."
Fanning's recommendations for review include cybersecurity requirements, cost accounting standards (CAS), commercial procurement processes, independent research and development oversight, among other regulatory demands.
