Honduran man pleads guilty to illegal re-entry; sentenced to time served

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Dimas Bonerge Aguilar Medina, a 27-year-old citizen of Honduras, has pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara in Buffalo, New York. Aguilar Medina was sentenced to time served and handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Fauzia K. Mattingly, who managed the case, stated that Aguilar Medina is an alien without legal status in the United States. He was removed from the country in January 2016 but was found again on April 13, 2025, in Erie County as a passenger in a vehicle stopped by the Erie County Sheriff’s Department. Aguilar Medina lacked documentation permitting his lawful presence in the United States.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a national initiative using Department of Justice resources to combat illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.

The investigation leading to Aguilar Medina's plea and sentencing involved efforts by the Erie County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff John Garcia and U.S. Border Patrol directed by Patrol Agent in Charge Martin B. Coombs.
