Hofood99 Inc, based in Brooklyn, New York, has issued a recall for its 200g packages of Enoki Mushroom due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This organism can lead to severe and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. While healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever and nausea, Listeria infection poses significant risks for pregnant women, including miscarriages and stillbirths.
The affected Enoki Mushrooms were distributed across retail stores nationwide. They are packaged in green plastic bags marked with UPC Barcode 6 976532 310051 on the back label and distributed by Hofood99 Inc., located at 21903 56th Ave Oakland Gardens, NY.
No illnesses have been reported so far related to this issue. The contamination was identified after samples collected from a Michigan store were analyzed by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (MDARD) Laboratory Division, confirming the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
Consumers who have purchased these mushrooms are advised to either dispose of them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. For further inquiries, customers can contact Hofood99 Inc at (917) 756-9833 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
