A Brazilian national residing unlawfully in Worcester, Massachusetts, has pleaded guilty to reentering the United States after deportation. Thiago Aquino-De Paula, 33, admitted to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien in federal court in Worcester. U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman has scheduled his sentencing for August 28, 2025.
Aquino-De Paula was indicted by a federal grand jury in April 2025. He had been deported from the United States on three occasions, including around November 4, 2021. After his last removal, he illegally returned to the country without permission and was discovered in Massachusetts following an arrest in Uxbridge for allegedly operating under the influence.
The charge of unlawful reentry carries a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine up to $250,000. Upon completing any imposed sentence, Aquino-De Paula is subject to deportation. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kaitlin J. Brown from the Worcester Branch Office is prosecuting the case.
