Erie resident indicted for alleged Social Security fraud

A federal grand jury in Erie, Pennsylvania, has indicted Simone Renell Carr on charges related to Social Security fraud. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the indictment, which includes charges of theft of government property and making false statements to retain Supplemental Security Income benefits.

Carr, aged 59, is the sole defendant named in the four-count indictment. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million. The actual sentence will depend on the severity of the offenses and any prior criminal history.

Assistant United States Attorney Paul S. Sellers is handling the prosecution for this case. The investigation that led to Carr's indictment was conducted by the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and Carr is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
