A man from Wolf Point has admitted to charges of assault on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme announced that Andy Kane Follet, 20, pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon. The potential penalties for Follet include up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.
The case was presided over by Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris, who will determine the sentence based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Sentencing is scheduled for October 22, 2025. Until then, Follet remains in custody.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on January 27, 2024. Follet and several friends were involved in an altercation with John Doe during a "slap-boxing" game in Wolf Point, Montana. The situation escalated when Doe approached Follet's home demanding his phone back.
Witnesses reported seeing Follet and others attacking Doe with various weapons including a bat and a hammer. A witness also saw Follet stab Doe in the chest after Doe had been hit multiple times with a hammer.
In statements to law enforcement, Follet claimed he believed Doe would not be injured due to wearing multiple layers of clothing and alleged that Doe had initially cut him with a knife. However, witnesses did not report seeing Doe with a knife at the scene; one was found later in his pocket while another large knife with blood was discovered hidden at Follet's residence.
Doe succumbed to his injuries before authorities arrived on site. An autopsy revealed that he died from blunt and sharp force trauma affecting his head and chest.
The prosecution of this case was handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office alongside investigations conducted by the FBI, Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice, Wolf Point Police Department, and State of Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community efforts focused on violence prevention.
