U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in Texas intercepted a shipment containing alleged methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $6,740,100. The narcotics were concealed within a shipment manifested as tomatillos on June 10.

"The cargo environment continues to be a top choice for trafficking organizations but our CBP officers along with our tools and technology are a force to be reckoned with," stated Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

The incident occurred when CBP officers encountered a tractor-trailer entering from Mexico. The vehicle was referred for further inspection, which involved non-intrusive inspection equipment and a canine team. A physical examination led to the discovery of 166 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 753.98 pounds hidden in the shipment.

Following the seizure, CBP's Office of Field Operations took possession of both the narcotics and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations special agents have commenced a criminal investigation into the matter.
