Rashad King, a 20-year-old resident of the District of Columbia, has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for an assault that took place at the Navy Yard Metro station in July 2024. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
King entered a guilty plea on March 27, 2025, to one count of aggravated assault while armed. Superior Court Judge Todd Edelman also imposed five years of supervised release following King's prison term.
The incident occurred just before midnight on July 20, 2024. According to government evidence, King approached the victim without provocation and began punching him until he fell. King then stomped on the victim's head more than twenty times. After rendering the victim unconscious, King stole his bag and fled. An off-duty FBI Special Agent witnessed the attack, followed King onto a Metro Bus, and alerted an officer who subsequently arrested him.
King was found in possession of the victim's bag, which included his license, at the time of his arrest. He has remained in custody since then.
U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith commended those involved in investigating the case from both the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. They also recognized Assistant U.S. Attorneys Luke Albi and Mark Levy for prosecuting the case.
