A Mexican national has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including drug possession with intent to distribute, in the District of Utah. Kevin Enrique Sanchez-Carrillo, 25, who was residing illegally in Draper, Utah, was initially indicted on April 8, 2025. A felony information filed on May 20 charged him with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, being an alien in possession of a firearm, eluding immigration inspection, and failure to register.
Court documents reveal that law enforcement executed search warrants on Sanchez-Carrillo’s apartment and vehicle on April 3. They discovered over 100 grams of heroin, a Smith and Wesson 9MM handgun, ammunition, and $7,750 in cash. Sanchez-Carrillo admitted his intention to distribute the heroin for profit and acknowledged he was prohibited from possessing the firearm due to his illegal status.
Further admissions indicate that Sanchez-Carrillo entered the United States unlawfully after December 14, 2023. He evaded immigration examination until his apprehension on April 3 this year. Additionally, he failed to apply for registration despite being in the country illegally for more than 30 days.
Sanchez-Carrillo's sentencing is set for September 4 at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City before a U.S. District Court Judge.
Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti announced the plea. The FBI Salt Lake City Field Office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Removal Operations are jointly investigating the case. The prosecution is handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America—a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.
