A Guatemalan citizen has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges related to illegal reentry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the indictment of Domingo Gonzalez Perez, 43, who is accused of reentering the country after being previously removed.
The indictment alleges that Perez was found in western Pennsylvania on or about October 9, 2024, despite having been deported from the United States on September 4, 2007. If convicted, Perez faces a maximum sentence of up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offense and Perez's prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney V. Joseph Sonson is handling the prosecution for this case. The investigation leading to the indictment was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations while combating illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
