U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy has called on Congress to pass President Donald Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill, which aims to initiate upgrades to the country's aging air traffic control systems. This appeal was made during a press conference after Duffy toured the Air Traffic Control Tower at San Diego International Airport.

Duffy emphasized the importance of modernizing the air traffic control system, describing it as "exactly the kind of investment Americans are excited about." He said that while additional funding will be necessary, passing the bill is crucial for starting the replacement of outdated systems.

"The choice before Congress is clear – pass the OBBB and let USDOT get to work or vote no and leave USDOT with zero dollars," Duffy said, urging Congress to fulfill President Trump's promise to rejuvenate America's infrastructure.

Frank McIntosh, Chief Operating Officer of the Air Traffic Organization and a former air traffic controller, highlighted the need for reliable equipment for air traffic controllers. He warned that without action, delays and disruptions in air travel could increase despite its current safety record.

San Diego International Airport is noted as the busiest single-runway commercial airport in the U.S., handling around 200,000 arrivals and departures each year.
