Mexican national sentenced for illegal re-entry into the US

Laurencio Olvera-Terrazas, a 54-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced for illegal re-entry into the United States. The sentencing took place on June 10, 2025, under United States District Judge Greg G. Guidry in New Orleans, Louisiana. Olvera-Terrazas had previously pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal re-entry of a removed alien, which is a violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a). This was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson.

Olvera-Terrazas received a sentence equivalent to time already served and an additional two years of supervised release. Furthermore, Judge Guidry mandated that he pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Court documents reveal that Olvera-Terrazas illegally re-entered the United States on or about August 22, 2024. He had been deported twice before—once on September 20, 1997, and again on March 12, 2007.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the United States Border Patrol in investigating this case. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman from the General Crimes Unit.
