Face Rock Creamery, based in Bandon, Oregon, has initiated a voluntary recall of its Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar Curds due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This organism can lead to severe infections in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. While healthy individuals may experience temporary symptoms like fever and nausea, listeria poses serious risks for pregnant women, potentially causing miscarriages or stillbirths.
The recall affects two specific lots of the product packaged in 6oz. cups with a "Use By" date of August 29, 2025. These products were distributed at Trader Joe’s locations across Northern California and Northern Nevada. The curds are identifiable by UPC 8 51222 00528 7 and lot numbers 20250519VS01 and 20250519VS02.
As of now, no illnesses have been reported. The issue was discovered through Face Rock Creamery's routine sampling program which detected the presence of bacteria in finished products. The company has informed both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Oregon Department of Agriculture about the situation and is investigating the cause.
Consumers who purchased these cheese curds are advised not to consume them but to return them for a full refund. For further inquiries, customers can contact Face Rock Creamery's Customer Care team via email at info@facerockcreamery.com during business hours from 8 AM to 5 PM PST.
In their statement, Face Rock Creamery emphasized their commitment to product safety and quality: "Face Rock Creamery is committed to ensuring the safety and quality of our products and is working closely with our distribution partners and regulatory agencies to resolve the matter swiftly and thoroughly." They also expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused by this recall.
