Three men from Lima, Ohio, have been sentenced to prison for robbing a postal employee on duty. U.S. District Court Judge James R. Knepp handed down the sentences following the November 30, 2023 incident where a United States Postal Service letter carrier was robbed during a delivery route in Lima.

The indictment detailed that keys used to access postal service bags and other mail receptacles were stolen through threats of force and violence against the carrier. This led to multiple thefts of U.S. mail.

Ahmir Curtis, aged 24, received a sentence of 24 months after pleading guilty to charges including robbery of mail and theft of postal keys. He is required to serve three years of supervised release and pay $650 in restitution for damage to federal property.

Zenesto Martin Jr., aged 26, was sentenced to 30 months in prison with similar charges as Curtis and will also serve three years of supervised release.

Christian Proby, also aged 26, was given a sentence of 12 months and one day for his involvement in the robbery and theft of postal keys. He will be under supervised release for two years following his imprisonment.

The investigation leading up to these sentences was carried out by the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the Lima Police Department. The case prosecution was managed by Assistant United States Attorney Frank H. Spryszak for the Northern District of Ohio.

The USPIS remains responsible for investigating crimes against postal workers and issues related to U.S. Mail security. They urge anyone with information regarding mail-related thefts or attempted thefts to contact them at their confidential hotline: 1-877-876-2455.
