Felon sentenced to nearly eight years for armed cocaine trafficking

A man with multiple prior felony convictions has been sentenced to 95 months in federal prison for trafficking cocaine while armed. This was announced by Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Nancy E. Larson.

On June 18, 2025, Eric Dwayne Ned received his sentence from United States District Judge Ada Brown. The charges included unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.

Court documents indicate that Ned was first arrested in June 2021 for evading arrest, unlawful possession of body armor, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, delivery of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance by state and local authorities. After bonding out twice from state custody following arrests in September 2021 and March 2022 for similar offenses including resisting arrest and delivery of controlled substances, federal charges were initiated based on his March 2022 conduct.

Special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) reviewed his actions leading to these federal charges. Court records also reveal that despite being incarcerated previously for drug offenses and domestic violence assaults, Ned continued violent behavior while jailed.

The investigation was conducted by ATF and Assistant U.S. Attorney John Boyle prosecuted the case.
