Ohio man receives lengthy sentence for exploiting minor

Rebecca C. Lutzko United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio

David P. Greulich, a 61-year-old resident of Cleveland, Ohio, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by U.S. District Judge David A. Ruiz. Greulich had pleaded guilty in March to multiple charges including driving across state lines for illicit sexual conduct with a minor, child exploitation, transporting visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, and possession of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM), also known as child pornography. In addition to his prison sentence, Greulich will serve lifetime supervised release and pay special assessments totaling $35,000. Restitution is yet to be determined.

Court documents reveal that in February 2024, Greulich began communicating with a 14-year-old girl from Jefferson County, New York via Snapchat. After several weeks of communication through the app, he drove from Ohio to New York on April 20, 2024, to pick her up and take her to a hotel where he held her for two days during which he violently and sexually abused her while recording the acts on a digital device. On May 11, 2024, Greulich made another trip across state lines to engage again in illicit sexual conduct with the same victim and documented these actions through video and photographs which he later emailed to himself.

A federal search warrant executed at Greulich’s home led investigators to seize electronic devices containing CSAM including over 100 images of the victim alone or with him on his cellphone. Additionally, investigators found 14 sexually explicit video files of the victim stored in his personal cloud account.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations Cleveland Office with support from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in New York, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Assistant United States Attorneys Margaret A. Kane and Segev Phillips prosecuted this case.
