A Greenville gang member has been sentenced to six years in prison for drug and firearm offenses. Leonard Williams Jr., aged 36, was sentenced to 72 months after pleading guilty on February 18, 2025, to charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Court documents reveal that the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force conducted controlled purchases of cocaine from Williams Jr. during July and August 2024. On August 12, law enforcement searched a residence linked to Williams Jr. on Ward Street, discovering over an ounce of cocaine and a loaded .40 caliber handgun in the bedroom. Authorities confirmed that Williams Jr. is affiliated with the 83 set of the Crips street gang and has a prior conviction from 2016 for conspiracy to commit second-degree murder.
This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. The OCDETF program aims to identify, disrupt, and dismantle high-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations threatening the United States through a collaborative approach involving federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
The announcement was made by Daniel P. Bubar, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina following sentencing by U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force investigated the case while Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Severo prosecuted it.
