The American Farm Bureau Federation has expressed approval following the Department of Labor's decision to suspend a rule known as the Farmworker Protection Act. This rule, initially invalidated by a district court, was criticized for its complexity and perceived adversarial stance between workers and employers.
Zippy Duvall, President of the American Farm Bureau Federation, said, "Farm Bureau thanks Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer and the Trump administration for recognizing the obstacles created by this complex rule, which pit workers against their employers." He emphasized that farmers appreciate their workforce and take seriously their responsibility to care for them. Duvall noted that while laws should penalize wrongdoers, this particular rule assumed guilt among all employers until proven otherwise.
Duvall further urged Congress to act in accordance with both the courts' decision and the administration's stance by rescinding the rule entirely. He highlighted the need for practical regulations that support farm viability and allow farmers to continue providing employment and food for American families.
