Conehatta man pleads guilty to sexual abuse of a minor

A Newton County man has admitted to sexually abusing a minor, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon of the Southern District of Mississippi. The guilty plea was entered on June 17, 2025.

Court documents reveal that Javeon Deshaun Jefferson, aged 25, committed the offense in February 2024 within the Conehatta Community of the Choctaw Indian Reservation. The case was investigated by the Choctaw Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Jefferson's sentencing is set for October 28, 2025. He could face up to fifteen years in prison, with the final sentence being determined by a federal district judge who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
