U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has expressed support for President Trump's proposed "One Big Beautiful Bill," which aims to rebuild the military, secure the border, and eliminate taxes on tips for workers through the No Tax on Tips legislation.

In a June 24 post on X, Cruz highlighted key priorities within the proposed bill, including strengthening the military, securing the border, and reducing taxes for tipped workers in the gig economy.

"President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill will rebuild our military, secure our border, and cut taxes on working men and women through my No Tax on Tips legislation," said Ted Cruz

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 16% of Americans reported earning money through gig economy work in 2023. Roles such as driving, food delivery, and freelance work are common in this sector. The report indicates that tips are a primary component of total earnings for many in these jobs.

"We're going to get it done—failure is not an option," Cruz said.

A 2024 Pew Research Center survey found that 58% of gig workers say tips are very important to their total income. Additionally, 37% depend on tips for at least half of their earnings. The Economic Policy Institute reported that tipped occupations such as food service and hospitality have a median base pay of $7.09 per hour, with tips often making up the difference to meet minimum wage requirements.

Ted Cruz has represented Texas in the U.S. Senate since 2013 and previously served as Solicitor General of Texas. He is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School and is known for his advocacy on tax reform and conservative policy priorities.
