A federal grand jury has indicted a Utah man on drug charges following the alleged seizure of over 4,800 grams of cocaine. Evar Mahmood Hashim, 25, from West Jordan, Utah, was initially charged on June 12, 2025.
Court documents reveal that in May 2025, the Davis County Metro Narcotics Strike Force began investigating a drug trafficking organization suspected of distributing large quantities of narcotics in Utah. Agents identified a vehicle believed to be used by the organization for trafficking. On June 10, 2025, a search warrant was executed on this vehicle in Juab County, Utah. Hashim was driving at the time and approximately 4,836 grams of white powder that tested positive for cocaine were seized during the search. Hashim was subsequently taken into custody.
Hashim faces charges of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. His initial court appearance is set for June 26, 2025, at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City.
The announcement came from Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti for the District of Utah. The investigation is being conducted by the Davis County Metro Narcotics Strike Force and the DEA.
Special Assistant United States Attorney Kelsy Young will prosecute the case. This case falls under Operation Take Back America, which aims to combat illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
