Jimcy McGirt, 76, from Wewoka, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender. The plea was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. McGirt faces a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The indictment revealed that McGirt had been convicted on May 2, 2024, for Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor in Indian Country by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Between August 25 and August 31, 2024, he reportedly failed to register his residence within a two-thousand-foot radius of any playground or park.
This case stemmed from an investigation conducted by the United States Marshals Service. The Honorable Gerald L. Jackson accepted McGirt's plea and requested a presentence investigation report.
The final sentence will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines along with other statutory factors. Until sentencing, McGirt remains under the custody of the United States Marshals Service.
