Jason R. Coody, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida
Octavius Durdley, a 46-year-old resident of Archer, Florida, has been convicted by a federal jury for failing to register as a sexual offender. This marks his second conviction for the same offense. The announcement was made by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
"Adherence to sex offender registration requirements is critical to keeping our communities informed and safe," stated U.S. Attorney Heekin. "My office will continue to aggressively pursue these types of cases to ensure strict compliance with registration requirements by sexual offenders."
During the trial, it was revealed that in December 2024, Durdley intentionally failed to complete the necessary registration process after being released from prison. His initial designation as a sex offender followed a 2010 conviction for receipt and possession of child pornography. Durdley had previously been convicted in 2022 for not registering as required.
The sentencing is set for September 30, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., taking place at the United States Courthouse in Gainesville before Chief United States District Judge Allen C. Winsor. Post-sentencing, Durdley must continue registering as a sex offender and faces up to ten years in prison.
This case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam Hapner.
