U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy has introduced a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing the conditions for truck drivers across the United States. These measures are part of President Donald Trump's Executive Order on Enforcing Commonsense Rules of the Road for America’s Truck Drivers.
The new package includes significant funding to increase truck parking, removal of certain mandates, modernization of driver resources, and reduction of regulatory burdens. A key component is over $275 million in grant funding allocated to expand parking access nationwide, with $180 million designated for Florida to add 917 new spaces along the I-4 corridor.
"Truckers keep America running," said Secretary Duffy. "Thanks to President Trump, we’re getting Washington out of your trucks and your business."
Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared W. Perdue highlighted the importance of this investment: "Ample truck parking infrastructure is vital to the safety, security, and quality of life for Florida residents."
Trucking industry leaders have expressed support for these initiatives. Chris Spear, President and CEO of American Trucking Associations, said that reducing regulatory burdens is crucial for economic growth and security. Todd Spencer, President and CEO of Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, welcomed the changes as beneficial for both truckers and road safety.
Key actions include expanding truck parking availability, withdrawing proposed speed limiter mandates on heavy-duty trucks, modernizing Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration tools, and eliminating 1,800 words from federal regulations to save time and money for truckers.
These efforts are part of ongoing initiatives by Secretary Duffy to support truckers and improve road safety in the U.S.
