A Mexican national who has been deported twice is facing federal charges in the Eastern District of Texas. Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced that Jose Orlando Colorado-Barcenas, 35, was indicted by a grand jury for illegally reentering the United States after being previously removed.
The indictment states that on May 14, 2025, Colorado-Barcenas was found residing illegally in Texarkana, Texas. He had been deported to Mexico from the United States in June 2009 and again in January 2010.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration and combating cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The operation also seeks to protect communities from violent crime through resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
If convicted, Colorado-Barcenas could face up to two years in federal prison followed by deportation.
The investigation involves multiple agencies including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Bowie County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Richards is prosecuting the case.
It is important to note that a federal indictment does not equate to guilt; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
