House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and Subcommittee on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust Chairman Scott Fitzgerald have issued subpoenas to the presidents of Brown University and the University of Pennsylvania. The action seeks documents and communications related to allegations that Ivy League schools have collectively raised tuition prices while using selective financial aid packages to maximize profits.

The committee's initial requests for information were made on April 8. However, according to the committee, Brown University President Dr. Christina Paxson and University of Pennsylvania President Dr. J. Larry Jameson have not fully complied with these requests. Eighty-four days later, their responses remain inadequate.

"The Committee is issuing subpoenas to obtain the documents and materials it needs to fulfill its oversight and legislative responsibilities," stated a representative from the committee.

Further details can be found in the full subpoena cover letters addressed to both university presidents.
