A resident of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, Maurice Mosely Jr., has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearms violations. This will be followed by eight years of supervised release. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Robert J. Colville.
The case against Mosely, 44, stemmed from an investigation under the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program in Beaver County. Authorities found that Mosely distributed controlled substances from his residence in Ambridge and his girlfriend's home in Aliquippa.
On July 21, 2021, law enforcement executed search warrants at both locations. At Mosely's residence, they seized a loaded stolen handgun and ammunition. As a convicted felon with four prior felony drug trafficking convictions, Mosely was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. During the search of his girlfriend's residence, authorities found crack cocaine, methamphetamine, cocaine, digital scales, an owe sheet, and approximately $4,000 in cash.
In August 2021, Mosely was stopped by police in New Brighton for traffic violations. Officers observed signs of impairment and discovered crack cocaine and bulk U.S. currency during a search following his arrest.
A month later in September 2021, law enforcement responded to a fight outside a bar in Beaver Falls. Surveillance footage showed Mosely discarding a loaded handgun behind a cigarette machine before fleeing the scene.
Judge Colville highlighted the seriousness of Mosely’s offenses and the danger he poses to the community when imposing the sentence.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti praised the efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies including the Pennsylvania State Police and Drug Enforcement Administration for their roles in securing this conviction.
