A man from Bourg, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm in the Eastern District of Texas. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.
Brad Michael Broussard, aged 44, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone delivered the sentence on July 1, 2025.
Court records show that on January 1, 2024, Broussard was stopped by law enforcement in Shelby County after hitting several construction barrels on the highway. During the traffic stop, officers detected the smell of marijuana and conducted a search of his vehicle. The search uncovered four firearms, including a pistol with a homemade silencer. Broussard also had hallucinogenic mushrooms, marijuana, prescription pills, a methamphetamine pipe, and other drug paraphernalia.
Further investigation revealed that Broussard has five felony convictions for burglary. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.
