Robert Varez Williams, a 28-year-old resident of the District of Columbia, has been sentenced to 48 months in federal prison for possessing a loaded Glock 23 while on supervised release. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro. Williams had previously been convicted of a violent firearm offense.
Williams pleaded guilty on March 25 before Judge Dabney L. Friedrich to being a felon unlawfully possessing a firearm. Besides the prison sentence, Judge Friedrich imposed an additional three years of supervised release.
Court documents reveal that on January 10, 2024, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Robbery Suppression Unit noticed Williams driving erratically in a silver Volkswagen. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Williams fled but was eventually caught after abandoning his vehicle and attempting to escape on foot.
An officer discovered a gun on the driver's seat where Williams had been sitting. The firearm was identified as a Glock Model 23 semi-automatic pistol loaded with 21 rounds. A further search uncovered another Glock pistol with a machine gun conversion device under a coat on the front passenger seat, along with MDMA pills, suspected PCP in a vial, additional ammunition, and alcohol.
At the time of his arrest, Williams was already under supervised release for attempted assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The investigation involved both the Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI Washington Field Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shehzad Akhtar and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Haley M. Pennington.
