A Honduran national residing unlawfully in Brockton has been sentenced for reentering the United States illegally after deportation. Oscar Lopez, also known as "Luis Maldonado," was sentenced by U.S. District Court Chief Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV to time served, approximately 2.5 months, followed by one year of supervised release. Upon completion of his sentence, Lopez will be subject to deportation.
Lopez, a citizen of Honduras, initially entered the United States illegally in 2003 and failed to appear for an immigration court date that same year, resulting in a removal order. He evaded authorities for nearly ten years until he was located and removed from the country in January 2013.
Shortly after his removal, Lopez reentered the United States without permission and was again removed in May 2013. After this second removal, he once more reentered the country illegally. Immigration officials discovered his unlawful presence following arrests by state authorities in March and April 2024 for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and providing false identification to law enforcement. He was subsequently arrested by immigration officials in April 2025.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director at Boston's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Reynolds prosecuted the case.
