Coal County man pleads guilty to illegal possession of ammunition

Kevin Carter Kieckhefer, a 35-year-old resident of Tupelo, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to a charge of illegally possessing ammunition. This announcement was made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The charge, "Felon in Possession of Ammunition," could lead to a sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

The indictment against Kieckhefer stated that he knowingly possessed 25 rounds of .223 ammunition on July 19, 2023. This possession occurred after Kieckhefer had previously been convicted of a crime that carried a punishment exceeding one year of imprisonment.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the Coal County Sheriff’s Office, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted Kieckhefer's guilty plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report will be completed before sentencing is determined.

A U.S. District Court Judge will impose the final sentence after evaluating both the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors relevant to the case.

Kieckhefer remains in custody under the United States Marshals Service while awaiting sentencing.

The prosecution team included Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dak T. Cohen and Lewis M. Reagan representing the United States government.
