Texarkana inmate sentenced for assaulting correctional officer

A federal inmate in Texarkana, Texas, has been given an additional prison sentence following an incident involving a correctional officer. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Andrew Hunter, a 23-year-old from Mount Pleasant, pleaded guilty to the charge of assaulting a federal officer. On July 2, 2025, he received an additional 18-month sentence in federal prison from U.S. District Judge Robert W. Schroeder III.

Court records reveal that on November 29, 2022, while incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution in Texarkana, Hunter was involved in an altercation with a correctional officer in a hallway at the Federal Prison Camp. During this confrontation, Hunter shoved the officer, resulting in the officer striking his head against a wall and sustaining serious injuries requiring medical attention.

The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James Noble.
