Jason R. Coody, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida
Nelson Omar Aguilar-Villalobos, a 21-year-old resident of Oakland, California, has been sentenced to five years in prison following his guilty plea for conspiracy to distribute, receive, and possess child pornography. This was announced by John P. Heekin, the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
Court records reveal that Aguilar-Villalobos engaged with others on social media to exchange child pornography. He specifically sought access to content depicting adults in sexual acts with prepubescent children. Following his prison term, Aguilar-Villalobos will be under supervised release for five years.
U.S. Attorney Heekin emphasized the responsibility of protecting children: “There is no greater responsibility than the protection of our most vulnerable, our children." He praised federal and state law enforcement agencies for their role in stopping Aguilar-Villalobos before further harm could occur.
Nicholas Ingegno from Homeland Security Investigations Tallahassee stated: “This sentence underscores the critical importance of finding and holding these online predators to account for the evil they perpetuate online against children.” Sheriff Walt McNeil noted that this case exemplifies effective collaboration among agencies committed to combating child exploitation.
Greg Leljedal, Acting United States Marshal for the Northern District of Florida, reiterated commitment: “The United States Marshals Service stands committed to working with our law enforcement partners to apprehend the heinous offenders who attempt to prey on our Nation’s most vulnerable population.”
The conviction stemmed from a joint investigation by Homeland Security and Leon County Sheriff’s Office with support from U.S. Marshals Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith L. Steer prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America and Project Safe Childhood initiatives aimed at combatting illegal activities such as child exploitation through coordinated efforts across federal and local levels.
