U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, who chairs the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, has commented on a recent announcement by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA declared that it will not proceed with a Reduction in Force (RIF).
Senator Moran stated, “I spoke with Secretary Collins this morning regarding his plans to forgo a large-scale reduction in force and appreciate his efforts to make certain veterans are at the center of any changes at the VA and ensure the department is focused on providing high-quality health care and benefits to those who have served and their families. This decision provides greater certainty to VA employees and the veterans they serve. I look forward to hearing more details about potential reorganization plans as VA works in coordination with Congress to right-size the VA workforce.”
The VA reported that from January 1 to June 1, there was a reduction of nearly 17,000 employees due to normal attrition, voluntary early retirement authority (VERA), or the deferred resignation program (DRP). It anticipates an additional 12,000 employees will leave through these processes by the end of fiscal year 2025.
