An off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent from the Sault Ste. Marie Station rescued a man from drowning in the St. Mary’s River and helped locate his two daughters on Saturday.

The incident took place near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, when the agent heard a man calling for help while struggling to stay afloat. The agent used a canoe to reach the distressed individual, assisted him with a life vest, and brought him to shallow water. During this time, it was revealed that the man had fallen out of his boat while pulling his daughters in a tube. Together, they flagged down another boat to search for the missing children.

The daughters were found safe and reunited with their father after swimming to shore when they fell out of their tube. Later, Sault Ste. Marie Police officers discovered the man's boat crashed against a sea wall.

“This heroic agent did not hesitate to take action, turning this potentially tragic event into a positive one,” said Detroit Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Javier Geronimo Jr. “Our agents are always on duty when it comes to public safety.”

This marks the second instance in recent weeks where Detroit Sector agents have saved someone from drowning. Officials remind individuals of the importance of wearing life vests on the water.
