Honduran national indicted for illegal re-entry into the United States

A Honduran national, Pedro Tailor Castillo-Bonilla, has been indicted for re-entering the United States after being deported. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the indictment on July 3, 2025. Castillo-Bonilla, aged 42, was found in Jefferson Parish on June 18, 2025. He had previously been removed to Honduras twice, once on October 20, 2011, and again on August 15, 2012.

If convicted of this charge under Title 8 of the United States Code Section 1326(a), Castillo-Bonilla could face up to two years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, one year of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson emphasized that an indictment is merely a charge and that guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America. This initiative aims to combat illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime. The operation combines resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Simpson praised the U.S. Customs and Border Protection for their role in investigating this matter. Special Assistant United States Attorney Frederick W. Veters Jr., from the General Crimes Unit, is overseeing the prosecution.
