Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed William Briggs as Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) following a 49-45 vote. This decision came after Joni Ernst, Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, encouraged her colleagues to support Briggs' nomination.
Earlier this year, Ernst played a key role in advancing Briggs' nomination through the committee process. She has highlighted the new direction at the SBA as a source of renewed optimism for small businesses.
In her remarks, Ernst emphasized Briggs' qualifications and readiness for the role. "He is sharp, he is steady, and he is the right person for this job," she stated. Ernst also noted that during the committee's rigorous nomination process, Briggs demonstrated professionalism and seriousness.
Briggs previously served as Acting Administrator of the Office of Capital Access and was involved in rolling out the Paycheck Protection Program. His experience equips him to tackle issues like fraud and waste within the SBA.
Ernst mentioned that Briggs has committed to ensuring equitable access to SBA support across communities. As a former entrepreneur himself, Briggs understands challenges faced by small business owners.
Ernst concluded by urging her colleagues to confirm Briggs: "Let’s give Main Street America someone who will fight with them, and for them."
