A Port Arthur man has been sentenced to federal prison for a firearms violation, according to an announcement by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.
Carl Sampson Solomon, aged 43, admitted guilt to the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He received a 46-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on July 9, 2025.
Court documents revealed that on March 27, 2024, Solomon was stopped for a traffic violation on Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur. During the stop, he informed officers about a firearm under his seat. The vehicle search uncovered the firearm and a small amount of marijuana. Further investigation showed that Solomon had five prior felony convictions and was on felony probation at the time. Federal law prohibits felons from possessing firearms.
