Tyriq Williams, a 34-year-old resident of the District of Columbia, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for the murder of Terry Clark. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro. Williams had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed on April 23, 2025, before Judge Todd E. Edelman. After his prison term, Williams will serve a five-year supervised release.
The incident occurred on January 7, 2023, when Williams and his girlfriend encountered Mr. Clark at the Navy Yard Metro Station escalator. Despite not knowing each other, after leaving the station, Williams shot Mr. Clark in the head, resulting in his death. Following the shooting, Williams returned to the station and traveled via train and bus to his workplace.
Although there was no video footage of the shooting itself, law enforcement identified Williams through other surveillance videos from Washington Metro Area Transit Authority around the metro station and on public transport. The investigation led to Williams' arrest after detectives found distinctive clothing from the night of the incident at his home during a search.
Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in announcing the sentence. They praised those involved in investigating and prosecuting the case, including Assistant U.S. Attorneys Molly K. Smith and Jamie Carter as well as former Assistant U.S. Attorney John Interrante.
