CHS Inc. recalls lamb feed over potential copper toxicity risk

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

CHS Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of seven tons of Payback Champion Lamb Text B30 with Power Booster. The recall is due to potentially elevated levels of copper in the feed, which could pose health risks to sheep.

Copper toxicity symptoms in sheep include lethargy, anemia, grinding of teeth, thirst, poor appetite, pale to yellow mucous membranes, dark urine, and recumbency. Death can occur one to two days after symptoms appear. Continued use of the product may lead to serious illness or death. CHS advises that if animals have consumed the recalled product and show these symptoms, owners should contact their veterinarian.

The affected product was manufactured at CHS's facility in Great Falls, Montana, and distributed to dealers in Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming after February 19, 2025. It was sold in 40 lb. Payback Champion feed bags under the Payback brand. The lot number and label date are on the feed label below the feeding directions.

No other lot numbers or products from the Great Falls facility are involved in this recall.

The company initiated this recall following a customer report suggesting the product might have caused illness or death due to elevated copper levels.

Customers who purchased this feed should stop using it immediately and return it for a full refund. For questions, customers can contact CHS at ANProducts@chsinc.com.
