David X. Sullivan, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Devaro Taylor, 35, from New Haven, was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams in Hartford and includes three years of supervised release following imprisonment for distributing crack cocaine.

Court documents and statements revealed that an investigation into narcotics trafficking in New Haven was conducted by the FBI’s New Haven Safe Streets/Gang Task Force and the New Haven Police Department in 2020. Between September and December of that year, investigators made controlled purchases of crack cocaine from Taylor. A wiretap authorized by the court on Taylor's phone showed he sold both powder and crack cocaine to numerous customers in New Haven.

Taylor was arrested on January 26, 2021. During a search of his residence, authorities found approximately 124 grams of cocaine, about 226 grams of crack cocaine, and $6,702 in cash.

On December 7, 2021, Taylor pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine base (“crack”).

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathaniel J. Gentile prosecuted this case through the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Program.
