Mobile woman sentenced to probation for tax fraud

Sean P. Costello U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama

Mobile resident Brandy Davis has been sentenced to five years of probation, including one year of home confinement with ankle monitoring, for tax fraud. Court documents reveal that Davis, aged 42, ran Davis Tax Service alongside her cousin, Kenneshia Davis, at three locations in Mobile. Records from the Internal Revenue Service indicate that she underreported her income by over $1 million in 2015 and 2016 and did not file tax returns for 2017 despite earning significant income. Additionally, she is required to pay $53,435 in restitution.

"Tax preparers who knowingly evade their own tax obligations can expect to be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," stated Sean P. Costello, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama.

Demetrius Hardeman, Special Agent in Charge at the IRS Criminal Investigation Atlanta Field Office, remarked on the case: "As a tax preparer, Brandy Davis knew her responsibilities in filing returns and properly reporting all income. However, she still willfully failed to fulfill her tax obligations." He added that IRS Criminal Investigation will thoroughly investigate those who deliberately avoid their tax duties.

Brandy's business partner, Kenneshia Davis, was sentenced in June 2025 to a year and a day of incarceration and ordered to pay $67,975 in restitution.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama. The investigation was conducted by IRS Criminal Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kasee Heisterhagen on behalf of the United States.
