Hartford Bakery, Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of its "Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf" due to the presence of undeclared hazelnuts. The recall affects six specific lot codes of the product, which may pose a risk to individuals with nut allergies or severe sensitivity to hazelnuts.
The company is taking precautionary measures by removing all units from the affected lot codes. No other lot codes are impacted by this issue.
The recalled products were distributed across several states including Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama, and Mississippi. Retailers such as Kroger and Walmart carried these items. The product packaging includes a flexible plastic bag with specific markings for identification: lot codes T10 174010206 through T10 174020406 on the front panel; a net weight of 12OZ (340G); UPC 24126018152 at the bottom; and an expiration date of July 13, 2025.
The recall follows the discovery that around 883 loaves contained visible hazelnuts but were packaged without proper labeling indicating their presence. An investigation found that there was an error in changing packaging from a hazelnut-containing bread to the white bread product.
No major injuries or illnesses have been reported so far; however, one customer did experience digestive discomfort after consumption. There have also been consumer complaints about visible nuts in the product.
Consumers who purchased these products are advised to return them for a full refund at their place of purchase. For further inquiries, Hartford Bakery can be contacted at 1-812-425-4642 during business hours from Monday to Friday.
